Il Talismano della Felicità, compiled by Ada Boni and first issued in 1929, established itself as the definitive Italian household cookery manual of the twentieth century. Drawing together regional traditions within a single comprehensive volume, the work offered middle-class kitchens a reliable repertoire spanning antipasti to dolci. Reprinted and expanded across many editions, it became a fixture of domestic libraries and a foundational reference for modern Italian gastronomy.
Cooking from this book
Abbacchio alla Romana
Signature dishA tender preparation of young milk-fed lamb in the Roman style, slowly cooked with rosemary, garlic, white wine and a whisper of anchovy. The dish has become emblematic of Ada Boni's masterwork because she was, at heart, a Roman cook, and her great compendium gave the bourgeois kitchens of newly unified Italy a polished national repertoire while never losing sight of the capital's most beloved trattoria classics.
