Indian Delights, compiled by Zuleikha Mayat and first issued in 1961, gathers the culinary traditions of the Indian South African community, particularly the Muslim women of Durban and the surrounding region. Produced under the auspices of the Women's Cultural Group, the collection documents recipes shaped by migration from the subcontinent and adaptation to local ingredients, and remains a foundational reference for South African Indian cookery.

Bunny Chow

Signature dish

Bunny Chow is a hollowed loaf of white bread filled with a richly spiced curry, a hand held street food born in Durban's Indian community. Indian Delights, compiled by Zuleikha Mayat for the Women's Cultural Group, became the defining cookbook of Indian South African home cooking, gathering the curries, biryanis, breads and sweetmeats of that diaspora. Bunny Chow stands as the most emblematic of these dishes, marrying Indian flavour with a distinctly South African form.
